Description

A gorgon is a terrifying female creature. While descriptions of Gorgons vary across Greek literature, the term commonly refers to any of three sisters (Stheno, Euryale and Medusa) who had hair of living, venomous snakes, and a horrifying gaze that turned those who beheld it to stone.

This is supposed to be Stheno, the eldest of the gorgons. She and her sister Euryale were immortal while Medusa was mortal. Of the three Gorgons, Stheno was known to be the most beautiful, independent and ferocious, having killed more men than both of her sisters combined.

I have seen so many pictures of Medusa and I wanted to do something different. Medusa is also, all too often, depicted as good looking even though she wasn't. At least not after she turned into a gorgon.
Medusa as a human was beautiful though and she worshipped the goddess Athena. But one day Poseidon raped Medusa in Athenas temple and Athena was outraged at her sacred temple being violated, and punished Medusa by turning her into a gorgon.

Hi. I like your artwork. You must read Lauren J. A. Bear's debut novel, Medusa's Sisters (https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=Ne6aEAAAQBAJ), and listen to the unabridged narration by Zura Johnson and Taylor Harvey (https://play.google.com/store/audiobooks/details?id=AQAAAEBC7VqtCM). The Greek mythology-inspired novel is told from Stheno's and Euryale's points of view, showing readers the events in the sisters' lives, from their difficult childhood, the cruelty Poseidon and Athena subject poor Medusa to, the three sisters' transformation into Gorgons, and the aftermath of Medusa's death. Trust me, you'll be so emotionally affected by the plot that you'll never read the Greek myths same way ever again. You're welcome.🐍🐍🐍
